Kalavrita - Diakofto

Mega Spilaio, Kastria Cave of Lakes

Kalavrita is located on the right bank of the Vouraikos, around 24 km (15 miles) south of Aigio, 40 km (25 miles) southeast of Patra and 62 km (39 miles) northwest of Tripoli.

The town of Kalavrita is the southern terminus of the Diakofto - Kalavrita rack and pinion railway. The railway was built in around 1885 - 1895 by Italian engineers.

Close to Kalavrita is Kastria, in which there is the famous cave system Spilaio ton Limnon ("Cave of Lakes"), filled with magnificently beautiful lakes and odd rock formations.
